The two in the picture are Lạc Long Quân the dragon lord guy and Âu Cơ the mountain fairy.
I tried to make them look Vietnamese, but I failed horribly. D: Âu Cơ's funky ao dai looks like a Chinese dress. Dx
Okays. You can look up the original myth/legend online(wikipedia's version sucks btw), but I shall do my own interpretation. :'D (My version of the strory is kinda silly and inacurate, don't take it too seriously)
One day Lac was walking through Vietnam~
And he saw a pretty white crane sleeping near by.
But oh noes! A demon bird came by and swooped the crane up!
Lac then threw a rock at the bird~
The bird loses it's grip on the crane and lets go.
The crane flies to a safety near by.
Furious, the demon bird transforms into a large beast!
The beast charges at Lac and they both fight!
After a long and hard battle Lac eventually kills the demon beast.
The crane seeing that the battle is over flies over to Lac and in a flutter of white feathers and other sparkly things~
Transforms into the beautiful fairy Au Co!
Lac, taken back by her prettyfulness, asks her to marry him. oAo
And they got married~~*
Some time later Au Co lays a golden egg pouch. >__>
And hatched from that egg was 100 boys.
They were like magical and stuff though.
And each had their own last name~
(Apparently the one with the name Nguyen was a pimp or something...)
Both Lac and Au Co were feeling homesick since Lac lives by ocean and Au Co in the mountains.
So Au Co took half the children and went into the mountains and Lac took the other half toward the ocean.
(The first Vietnamese divorce?? D8 )
They would still have reunions and help each other in times of danger and all that.
One of the sons from the ocean even became the first Vietnamese king! 8D
